Surface cleaning level before metal anticorrosion coating-a

2020-12-09

Usually metal surface will be attached with dust, oil, oxide scale, rust layer, pollutants, salt or loose old paint film. The success of painting depends mainly on the quality of surface treatment. If you do not remove these substances and paint directly, it will inevitably affect the adhesion and corrosion resistance of the entire coating.

According to statistics, about 70% of coating problems are caused by improper surface treatment. Therefore, for the performance of a metal anticorrosive coating system, proper surface treatment is essential. The main basis for determining the surface cleanliness level requirements is the corrosive environment of the painted object, the coating matching and the expected service life of the painted object.

There are two representative international standards for cleanliness. One is the "SSPC-" formulated by the United States in 1985, and the other is the "Sa-" formulated by Sweden in 1976. It is divided into four levels: Sa1, Sa2, Sa2.5, and Sa3, which are common international standards.
